BMW Ghost Immobiliser
The Ghost utilizes the CAN data bus to communicate with your vehicle. This prevents thieves from adding keys or replacing the ECU to bypass your security system as it requires a correct PIN code to begin the engine.

It is connected to your BMW's CAN data network and is programmed with a secure, unique PIN code which is accessed using buttons installed in your car. Ghost is connected to your CAN network and uses buttons on your vehicle to generate an unique push-sequence which must be entered before the engine can start.
If the anti-hijacking mode has been activated, any attempt to restart the engine will be stopped. Once the system detects that the vehicle has stopped moving it will honk the horn and flash the indicators, if it fails to find the correct code it will also stop the engine (where possible). The Anti-Hijack feature can be cancelled by entering your push sequence, or by entering service mode that allows your car to start and drive without having to enter your PIN.
If you have an GPS device that is connected to your BMW it can be used to turn off the Anti-Hijack feature, allowing you to still use the navigation system in your car whilst the vehicle is parked unattended. If you own a smartphone, you can also connect it to your Ghost app to control the anti-hijack feature and other functions.

The device is connected to CAN Data Network of the vehicle (similar to Ethernet cable) and a personal pin code is inserted into it. The pin code has to be entered before the vehicle starts.
